Cold Weather Performance

At Cold Creek, we build our tubs to perform year-round — even in cold climates. With robust insulation, continuous water circulation, and durable construction, our tubs are designed to thrive outdoors in winter conditions.

Outdoor Setup Tips

Our tubs are extremely durable and well-insulated, but proper placement matters. If you're setting up your tub outdoors, we strongly recommend installing it in a covered or fully shaded area. This protects it from sun exposure and harsh elements, helping extend its lifespan.

Water Circulation & Pump Function

Each Cold Creek Tub includes a high-efficiency Danner circulation pump that runs continuously to prevent water stagnation, limit debris buildup and help reduce freezing risk by keeping water moving.

Unlike ponds or still cold tubs, ours keep the water in motion — similar to a river — making it harder for the surface to freeze.

Insulation Details

Tub Body & Lid

  • Cold Creek Tubs molds and foam fills the tub and lid in-house. We can afford to make a product that is overbuilt, because we are the manufacturer.
  • Average wall thickness: 4”
  • Average R-value: 28.1

Plumbing Insulation

Thickness: 1/2”

R Value: 3.1

Extra Winter Precaution: Chiller Removal

In extreme cold, you can remove the chiller and place it indoors. You can still run the pump to keep water circulating. If the jet slows, the chiller may be starting to freeze.

Easy fix:
Swap the chiller with a bypass coupling (linked here) to connect the pump directly to the filter. This keeps water flowing, even when the chiller isn’t in use.

Summary

Cold Creek Tubs are heavily insulated, equipped with a continuous circulation pump and designed for year-round, winter use.

If you’re using the tub, your body adds heat to the water — and only during extreme, prolonged freezes would you need to take extra steps. For reference, I'll be using mine in Ketchum, Idaho this winter without any changes, but I’ll keep an eye on things when temps dip below 20°F for several days.

We're here to help with any questions along the way!

Stay cold,
